Getting Started
Welcome to TopSnapp! This guide will help you get started with creating your first snap and understanding the core concepts.
What is a Snap?
A snap is a visual grid that contains cells (cards) of information. Think of it like a flexible spreadsheet where each cell can be customized with different types of content - tasks, notes, links, images, and more.
Creating Your First Snap
1. Click "New Snap"
From your dashboard at /app/snaps, click the "New Snap" button in the top right corner.
2. Choose a Template
You can start with:
- Blank Grid - Empty canvas with customizable rows and columns
- 2×2 Matrix - Priority matrix (Quick Wins, Major Projects, Fill-Ins, Time Sinks)
- Kanban Board - To Do, In Progress, Done columns
- Custom - Define your own grid size
3. Add Content to Cells
Click any cell to edit it:
- Type text directly into the cell
- Change cell type - Normal, Todo, Status, Link, Image, or Figma
- Customize styling - Colors, fonts, alignment, borders
- Add notes - Additional context that appears on hover
Understanding Cell Types

Best Practices
Start Simple
Begin with a small grid (3×3 or 5×5) and expand as needed. It's easier to add rows/columns than to manage a massive grid from the start.
Use Folders
Organize snaps into folders by project, team, or purpose. This makes finding specific snaps much faster.
Consistent Naming
Use clear, descriptive names for your snaps. Include dates or version numbers if relevant.
Leverage Cell Types
Use the right cell type for the job:
- Todos for actionable items
- Status cells for workflow stages
- Links for reference materials
- Normal cells for notes and context
Add Context with Notes
Use the notes field to add extra details that don't need to be visible in the main cell.
